DRAWING NOTTINGHAM

A central element to the workshops has been providing visitors with the opportunity to draw a map of Nottingham. Starting with a blank canvas with only the Council House drawn in the centre, together we have built a unique map showing lots of the places we value.

The hand-drawn map forms the 'background' of our interactive map and is perhaps the most visually important element of our project.

There are several interesting drawings to notice about our map, for example, somebody has crossed out a drawing of Nottingham Castle and then drawn another castle elsewhere on the map.

Drawing Nottingham is different from the other workshop activities as the other activities allow responses to be repeated, as an example of this, there are many postcards drawn of Nottingham's Council House. As the Council House is already drawn on the map, people are encouraged to add or change existing drawings, rather than repeating them.

It has been important for us to understand which drawings came out of each workshop, which has allowed us to analyse the types of responses.
