A Space for Memory
A collaborative project between Nottingham Trent University, Science without Borders and the people of Nottingham; A space for memory hopes to provide a digital platform for contemporary Nottingham to remember its military history during the First and Second World Wars. Additionally, a physical map is available to guide visitors around specific memory sites.

Funded by NTU’s SPUR programme and led by Prof. Duncan Higgins and Ana Souto, we hope to spread the impact of this research throughout the UK and Europe.

The project has been carried out by; Emma Hewitt and David Symons (Nottingham Trent) and Alina Olivera, Marina Martinelli Coelho and Felipe Franklin (Science without Borders).

Using all of our research, we put together a physical “Memory Point Map”, which aims to uncover wartime memories of Nottingham. Places are highlighted on the map because we would like to encourage people to approach remembrance and memory individually. Perhaps some people would like to visit all of the “Memory Points”, whereas others may prefer to only see memorials or sites that were bombed.
